"Guide Me to Learn"

This Mixed Media Assemblage is called an ‘altered book’ by the artist. Knowledge can be learned, wisdom cannot. We grow by learning, but become sage by knowledge+experience. We need guidance in this process from parents, siblings, teachers (who were historically learned religious figures) and divine inspiration. Various embellishments are representative and symbolic of the philosophy of the piece: a spiritual icon, symbolic readings from books that must come from knowledge – such as truth and discipline, the book itself, and a secret drawer containing a key for ‘unlocking’ and learned saint and references to Greek mythology, engineering and architecture. Other found objects include old buttons, sewing machine parts, tin from ceiling tiles, knob from an 1888 organ and an electrical fuse.. #AB9
